Atlanta, GA’s Black Swan Lane return with their latest album Blind. Their 10th album, it is everything we’ve come to expect from the band. Post-punk music has always been defined by its DIY spirit and its challenge to the status quo. It’s a genre that’s never been afraid to push boundaries and experiment with new sounds, and that spirit is alive and well in this latest release. With its angular guitars, pounding drums, and frenetic energy, this album is a true post-punk powerhouse that’s sure to leave an impression on anyone who listens. It represents the unapologetic spirit of artistic expression. It breaks free from the constraints of commercial expectations and gives a voice to those who dare to be different. With its raw and authentic sound, Black Swan Lane has the power to captivate and inspire, offering a refreshing alternative to the mainstream. One other thing – Jack Sobel’s voice is a smoldering breath of fresh air! Welcome back. Now let’s talk about the standout tracks.

Wishful kicks off the album in stunning fashion. The song is a testament to the timeless appeal of Black Swan Lane’s signature sound, with soaring guitars, driving rhythms, and powerful vocals that will give you goosebumps. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to submit a video to the band to hopefully be included in their latest video. I welcomed the opportunity to appear in another music video – a few years ago I appeared in a Mudhoney video that was somewhat controversial upon release. At least to the folks I showed it to. Anyway – I made the cut for the Black Swan Lane video. Phew! Blind is a wonderful single, hooks galore. An infectious guitar riff that will stay lodged in your brain on repeat. “I’ve been here all along” Jack sings in various affectations. It’s wonderful and mesmerizing. Fragile has an aggressive guitar refrain that is a force to be reckoned with, delivering a raw energy that will have you rocking out from start to finish. It just may be my favorite song on the album. Escape is a mournful lament, indebted to the greatest ballads by the greatest post punk bands. Make way for one more timeless melody – this song soars and tugs at the heartstrings throughout the entirety of its run time. It is a highlight on an album full of highlights. I kept returning to this song as I listened to the album over and over. Perfection.

Once again, Black Swan Lane have delivered a stunning album that betters what came before. An expert take on post punk in 2023, I am excited to see what comes next. You can follow the band on The Social Network and purchase the album via their website.
